Job Description:

Reporting to the Athletics Director, the Assistant/Associate Athletic Director for Strategic Communications and Media Relations is responsible for providing leadership to the athletics communications and media relations staff, and developing and executing a comprehensive, strategic vision and plan to enhance the AIC Athletics brand identity and to support and promote an NCAA Division I Ice Hockey program and 25 Division II athletics programs, including football.
Serves as a member of the department’s senior leadership team. Responsibilities will include sport oversight and supervising head coaches of select teams to ensure team compliance, achieving roster and new student recruitment goals, and team competitiveness.
Directs the Athletic Communications and Media Relations area: Oversees, directs, assigns and trains staff. Secures vendors and professionals for long-term relationships (printing, photographers, graphic design). Manages the athletics communications budget, coordinating contracts affecting the unit (website, printing, etc.). Directs the overall tone and look of graphic elements used in print, web, and other media. Provides advice, consultation, and support in the development of policy, planning and response to all publicity and public relations aspects of the Department of Athletics. Creates relationships with local, regional and national media contacts to further expand the AIC Athletics brand and exposure.
Directs all internal and external communications for all AIC sports, including working with local, regional, and national media outlets.
Develops and directs a robust social media strategy to promote AIC Athletics and its student-athletes, creating fresh, interesting, and accurate content.
Directs the broadcasting production and content for the Department. Creates and direct team highlights and features. Directs radio and video streaming broadcast as required by respective conferences.
Oversees the development and regular content of the AIC Athletics website, ensuring proper branding, and accurate and interesting content.
Oversees all athletic communication operations at athletic events. Recruits, trains, and supervises game assistants and student workers for pressroom/box, press row, official scorekeeping and statistical crews for assigned home athletic events. Serves as the media liaison for all AIC athletics events.
Serves as a member of the Northeast 10 Administration Council
Oversees projects; Communicates changes and progress
Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Required Degree(s): Master’s degree
Required Field of Expertise: Sports Information, Athletics and/or media relations

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Communicates effectively with all levels of the institution and outside constituents. Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations
Writes clearly and informatively utilizing proper grammar
Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness
Prioritizes and plans work activities; Uses time efficiently; Plans for additional resources; Develops realistic action plans.
Knowledge of sports statistical software
Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and experience with the internet
Experience in video editing
Ability to travel and maintain flexible hours

Work Schedule
This is a full-time, exempt level, benefits-eligible position. Normal office hours are 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, flexible to the needs of the department. Evening, weekend, and holiday event work is required as the schedule dictates.
