Summary: The Billing Clerk is a member of the medical office team whose primary responsibilities are charge estimates for patients, communication with patient and guarantor about account, and sliding fee discount applications. Please be advised that a condition of employment with Columbia River Health is dependent upon your ability to provide proof of your eligibility to work in the Untied States, results of your criminal background check, pre-employment drug screening, references and results from a TB blood test. This position requires completion of the COVID 19 vaccination series.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Backs up and supports front office and billing staff.
Works cooperatively and supportively with all other staff.
Performs other necessary duties as assigned by the Revenue Cycle Manager to meet the goal of providing primary health care services.

Administrative Duties

Responsibility will be to write up patient charge estimates and manage/organize estimates to comply with the No Surprise Billing mandate.
Assist patients with Sliding Fee Discount Program applications.
Keeps accurate logs and documentation to ensure accurate patient billing and accounts.
Assists in keeping patient demographics and third party payor information up-to-date.
Assists with accurate and prompt payments and adjustments.
Speaking with patient/guarantor about account balances.
Setting up payment plans.
Informs Revenue Cycle Manager of issues with claims, staff or patients.
The Billing Clerk may supervise and/or train another staff member when assigned.
Assists to prepare and post charges as directed
Assists to correct and rebill rejected/denied claims and charges.
Provide support for account questions to staff, patients, and guarantors.
Other duties are assigned by Revenue Cycle Manager.

Physical Demands and Work Environment: Work is primarily in an office environment but will require work outside too for screening or on site events. May involve bending, hearing voice conversations, keyboarding, kneeling, lifting up to 35 pounds, pulling, pushing, reaching, sitting, standing, walking, reading, writing, and proofreading. Employee shares common exposure to communicable disease. May include travel for patient care or training.
Reporting Relationships: The Billing Clerk reports to, is supervised and evaluated by the Revenue Cycle Manager.
Evaluation: The evaluation of work performance will be ongoing and will be carried out by the Finance Director and will include the specific duties and responsibilities of this position description plus employee attitude and general working behavior. Formal evaluation will normally be performed annually but may be initiated at other times by the employee or supervisor.
Qualifications:

High school graduate or GED equivalent.
A basic understanding of health insurance and other third-party billing practices or 1 year medical reception experience. Other experience or training will also be considered as meeting qualifications if assists in the completion of job duties for this position.
The ability to carry out the assigned duties of this position independently or with only minimal supervision.
The ability to read and understand medical, legal, and insurance documents.
The ability to establish and maintain appropriate filing system for the retrieval of needed information.
Must be qualified in Basic Life Support techniques or able to successfully pass class soon after hire.
The ability to relate effectively to patients, providers, coworkers and others as needed. Ability to work as a “team” member of the medical office staff.
Bilingual English/Spanish with interpreting skills preferred but not required
