Location: Warren, MIDuration: Long Term, ContractJob Overview: Engineer- Global Fullsize TrucksThe Power and Signal Distribution Systems (PSDS) Lead Engineer is a key position responsible for designing and implementing power and signal distribution system wiring designs for vehicle programs. It is an engineering position within the Product Development Team. This opportunity will require the employee to interface with colleagues and work closely with vehicle program teams, other Product Development engineering groups such as interiors, body in white, chassis, propulsion, validation, program team, purchasing, marketing, and manufacturing.

Provides program specific requirements for sourcing process
Provides technical background in PSDS supplier technical reviews
Creates initial harness parts list and complexity studies
Maintains consistency of effort for the program – knows the PSDS Statement of Requirements, program, timing, issues, plan etc. and manages details when changes are required
Manages efforts of the supplier within the engineering factory
Identifies and schedules training needs accordingly with EGM approval
Participates in interface tradeoffs discussions and resolves integration issues
Manages the cost, quality, mass, etc. for the power and signal distribution system including content and program changes
Supports Pre-Production build events including both physical and virtual builds
Ensures that the design, development, and electrical release of the Wiring System are integrated within the vehicle architecture with quality
Conducts Product Development Team meetings to ensure deliverables and timing are met .
Leads benchmarking analysis to support innovation, tradeoff or cost /benefit analysis
Leads Peer and Wire Harness Assessment reviews
Provides assembly plant launch and remediation support
Generates technical solutions for current, new and major programs with engineers
Provides technical leadership for advanced technology development
Performs complex design analysis
Develops engineering designs (including subsystems)
Implements engineering changes
Specifies and balances system requirements
Plans and implements test and/or development programs
Releases parts and subsystems for production
Communicates, coordinates, and consults with engineering departments and customers
Stays abreast of new technology and competitive products
Travels as required
Interface between BFO and DRE on design direction
Leads discussion with program teams on design and execution, i.e. Vapir, VCIT
Provides complexity reduction ideas as a direct interface with marketing
Interface (single point) to the other assigned team for PSDS questions or integration
Help explain PSDS timing, process, requirements, strategy, issues, etc. to their interface teams. Examples:
Rollout ICDes process and timing with assigned team
Educate assigned team on PSDS lead time for wiring changes
Rollout connector selection process with assigned team
Educate assigned team on ring terminal catalog and mating interface requirements


Candidate should have one of the following engineering degrees: BSE, BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Computer Science, Math, Chemistry, Metallurgical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Aeronautical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Physics, Materials Engineering
At least 5 to 10 years of experience in Power Signal or Wire harness packaging
High level of oral and written communication skills
Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area required
Exhibits appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals
Specific knowledge of engineering discipline (e.g. mechanics, physics, metallurgy, manufacturing methods, electronics, software, control systems) within job-related area
High level analytical ability where problems are unusual and complex
High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others
Knowledge of engineering software and systems as it pertains to job-related area
Four or more years’ experience in job-related area
