Manager, Software Development Engineering

Come join the Expedia Group Car team! We are working on building the next-generation platform to redefine the way travelers choose and experience their car rentals. Our goal is to make every traveler’s experience better.
What you’ll do :
Act as a spokesperson for software design standard methodologies – researching and recommending frameworks and architectural/code design patterns
Lead a team of engineers in implementing high-quality applications to support the delivery and deployment of new business functionality
Mentor and lead team members and advocate for quality coding and optimal processes
Build broad knowledge of the entire product and in Expedia Group’s languages, frameworks, cloud services, toolkits, methodologies enabling you can help with any component or type of issues
Participate in technical design discussions and should be able to provide suggestions and mitigate any impact
Estimate resources and identify risks to achieve project goals
Work closely with partners and Product Managers to influence product strategy and resolve product development roadmap. Provide planning support for the technology roadmap
Anticipate and recognize bottlenecks in work processes between teams and makes suggestions for ongoing improvement
Lead implementation teams and ensure the execution of new insights or approaches
Share domain and industry knowledge between multi-functional teams
Identify areas where efficiency and process improvement are needed and implement effective solutions
Apply new insights to improve team outputs
Establish tools and techniques to supervise progress related to implementing process improvements
Work with different project teams across analytics, technology, and product, to define purpose-built schemas to handle large-scale and non-relational workloads
Provide mentorship and technical direction to on and off-shore team-members and evangelize best practices and methodologies
Identify areas of improvement within the code and suggest solutions
Advocate for operational excellence (such as unit testing, establishing SLAs, programming for resiliency, and scalability)
Bridge the gap in discussions between technology and non-technology personnel. Report on team status faithfully and listen for suggestions to improve lagging project work
Evaluate current team projects or goals and identify the relevant skills and expertise needed to accomplish them
Plan for and distribute vital resources to ensure the accomplishment of team goals
Guide employees in the development of individual goals, provide regular and specific feedback, and assesses performance
Encourage and support the education and professional development of employees
Mentor employees by providing advice and recommendations based on your own experience and takeaways
Self-starter that enjoys and takes pride in the engineering work of their team
Who you are:
Bachelor degree in computer science or computer engineering or related field; or equivalent related professional experience
Leading (formally) least at 3 multi-quarter projects and has participated in peer’s performance evaluations by providing technical assessment and feedback
Strong technical foresight which allows you to be responsible for the technical domain; identify strengths and weaknesses among languages and select among available technology to implement and resolve for the need
Understands when and how to reward and recognize team members
Acted as a mentor for individual contributors on a team
Defined team goals and how they fit a business need – working as an enabler for the team to then meet these goals
Your skills and work ethic encourages the entire team to improve their craft
