Description :
The Chef Instructor is position responsible for providing high quality classroom instruction and, where applicable, lab instruction in entry-level culinary arts techniques. He/she will need to prepare relevant assignments, document student progress, accountability and issues, and perform a variety of other tasks which promote the overall support of student academic success through expert instruction. The Chef Instructor will utilize lesson plans and activities for each class provided within the established and approved entry level culinary arts curriculum.

Arc Broward operates at 10 locations and provides 21 programs throughout Broward County, including its two pioneering Social Enterprises – Arc Educate and Arc Culinary.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Other duties may be assigned)
Positive student instruction and interaction. Teach the Entry Level Culinary Arts curriculum for students.
Teach general food preparation skills and techniques including but not limited to:
Basic knife skills;
Safe food handling techniques;
Setup, operation, and cleanup of a standard commercial food service kitchen, equipment, and entry level culinary techniques.
Positive student instruction and interaction. Classroom instruction including the administering of associated quizzes, homework and kitchen-lab demonstrations.
Evaluate and track student progress and accountability on a daily basis.
Participate in ongoing growth and development of pedagogics and curriculum within the culinary arts program.
Provide respectful, positive feedback to students to assist in their professional advancement and overall career readiness.
Follows all Learning Institute Policies and Standard Operations Procedures in accordance with DOE Rules & Regulations.
Creates teachable moments for students and participates in all Student-Chef Luncheons, Delish, Traveling Plate, Culinary Competitions, Culinary Graduations, Outreach, Media and other Arc student-driven functions as needed.
Utilizes the established Flex Reading program on a daily basis to help drive student literacy. Makes accurate, weekly reports to the Learning Institute Director.
Develops and maintains overall program satisfaction by cultivating and maintaining relationships with students, potential employers, professional associations, customers and agency co-workers alike.
Maintains a safe, secure, legal and healthy work environment by establishing, following and enforcing proper sanitation, quality of food preparation, service standards and procedures. Consistently monitors program conformance with agency inspections, enforces sanitation and legal regulations within the kitchen and all food service areas.
Highly self-motivated while taking the personal initiative to improve job knowledge by remaining abreast of food service practices within the culinary industry. Participates in professional development opportunities on a scheduled basis. Also participates timely in all required training provided by the Learning Institute.
Consistently tracks and remains current with emerging food standards, service practices and culinary trends. Covets, initiates and maintains professional networks with industry leaders nationally and locally through community outreach, business associations, social media and the like.
Required Qualifications/Skills:
Minimum of an Associate’s of Occupational Studies Degree (AOS) within the culinary industry
Bachelor of Professional Studies (BPS) in Culinary Science preferred
One year related experience required
Interest in working with individuals with diverse backgrounds and/or learning and other types of disabilities or challenges
Comfortable speaking in front of a small group or audience
Willingness to work as a team and adhere to agency and program policies and procedures
Ability to integrate current culinary trends into all courses
Ability and willingness to utilize technology to enhance students’ learning
Ability to communicate respectfully, clearly and effectively with students, colleagues, hospitality and culinary industry professionals
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, always maintains comportment
Hourse:
Monday – Friday
7:30am – 3:30pm
Salary:
$45,000/year
