Description :

POSITION SUMMARY Operates a variety of equipment (excluding cranes) used in the construction, maintenance and repair of marine vessels and shipyard maintenance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: Because Eastern Shipbuilding is continually growing to meet the needs of our customers, the essential duties and responsibilities may be different than described.
· Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
· Operates trucks and construction equipment, such as backhoe, man-lift, road grater and front-end loader, etc.
· Operates heavy equipment of various sizes and weights in the loading and unloading of various equipment, materials and supplies.
· Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment.
· Perform routine inspection on assigned equipment and notify management required maintenance and/or repair.
· Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
· Work with hand signals from Universal Standard Signal Chart.
· Work with minimal supervision.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalence plus three to five years experience in the operation of a variety of heavy equipment required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Requires knowledge of ship terminology, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
Skills: Ability to read and comprehend written, verbal, or diagram form or plans. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form. Ability to read and understand load charts. Knowledge of safe operation and use of hand and power tools. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Required: Valid driver’s license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to coordinate movements of two or more limbs together (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting, standing, or lying down. The employee is required to have the ability to quickly and repeatedly make precise adjustments in moving the controls of a machine or vehicle to exact positions. The employee is regularly required to communicate. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the workday. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee must be physically and medically qualified to wear all required personal protective equipment, as prescribed under Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards. The employee must be able to work above ground at heights of a minimum of 50 feet aloft and/or working from scaffolding and/or man-lifts while working with machinery; in confined spaces and withstand extreme heat and cold in an outside climate or confined space.

The employee may be exposed to the risk of electrical shock, moving mechanical parts, vibration, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, continual loud noise, and other hazards found in a heavy industrial shipyard environment. Rigorous compliance with safety procedures, policies, and personal safety equipment requirements is therefore mandatory.
