Description :
SUMMARY
The Innovation Lab (iLab) Manager for PGTI is responsible for all business and operational processes required to launch custom, niche, engineered to order fenestration products. This individual will work collaboratively with the design engineering team and leadership to design and manage flexible manufacturing processes needed for new product development. Manages and coordinates activities of manufacturing production personnel. Manages P&L for iLab. Reports directly to the Vice President of Engineering and Innovation.

Responsibilities
Actions
Customer Interface
Promote factory capabilities to solicit orders
Preparation of customer quotes, including; designs, timelines, and costs
Product / Project Selection
Organizes efforts through PGTI’s defined stage gate process to deliver innovative new products, serving defined target markets.
Lead review sessions with stakeholders and subject-matter experts to evaluate requests (or concepts) for production
Product Designs
Interface with New Product Development Team to develop detailed product designs to meet customer requirements and manufacturability within the factory
Design Activities: Work with Sr Design engineers to address product updates and support the creation of new product design concepts. Use creativity and ingenuity in product development and continuous improvement activities
Product Documentation
Responsible for maintaining and organizing all process documentation for each custom product and each sales order
Product Installation and Prototype Support: Build, install and test prototype units. Develop working prototype concepts for feasibility analysis
Certification Determination
Select appropriate certification levels for produced products (e.g., P.E. approved, HVHZ, NOA, etc.)
Order Placement with PGT Customer Service
Initiate orders with PGT to allow for customer order acknowledgements and customer billing
Supply Chain / Material Sourcing
Works closely with supply chain to ensure production material is available and inventoried
Tracking of costs
Maintain an accounting of product / project specific costs
Maintain an accounting of Factory budget and expenditures
Maintain P&L by product and project
Production Monitoring
Monitor product production to ensure on-time deliveries for customers
Ensure production equipment / tools are properly maintained
Fabrication / Assembly
Develop and maintain manufacturing process plans
Build products from design drawings
Program CNC / automated equipment
Quality Inspections
Verify products conform to design specifications
Ensure products are visually defect free (e.g., glass, frame finish, etc.)
Performance Reporting
Maintain appropriate records of factory performance to; establish baselines, monitor trends, and identify improvements opportunities
IT System
Implements and maintains information systems needed to build configurable product
Communications
Communicate project progress or issues in a timely manner with team and stakeholders to ensure completion of project is successful.
Production Support
Participate in product fabrication and assembly as required
Product Transitions
Work closely with manufacturing engineering teams to transition newly designed products into the appropriate manufacturing facility. Coordinates product launch, start up, and successful transition toward stable/mature product
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leads personnel responsible for the manufacturing activities of new product launches.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent – preferably Mechanical Engineering.
5± years experience in manufacturing engineering and project management, preferably in the Fenestration industry.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Hands-on mechanical skills required – working knowledge of tools such as CNC, chop saw, table saw, drill press, etc. required
LANGUAGE / COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
College-level mathematical skills
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to establish priorities, plan, document and monitor
Must be able to assess complex situations and make appropriate decisions
