Description :
This position is for a laboratory technician to assist and conduct basic biomedical research. Duties will include: care of laboratory animals, small rodent surgeries, behavioral assays, histological analyses, light and fluorescent microscopy, molecular biology including PCR and in situ hybridization, radioimmunoassay, ordering of supplies, managing protocols and daily maintenance of laboratory. In addition, the technician will contribute to experimental design and optimization of experimental protocols.
Responsibilities include:
Performs Histological analyses, light and fluorescent microscopy, molecular biology including PCR and novel in situ hybridization techniques, radioimmunoassay using pre-established guidelines.
Adapts and develops protocols as required to meet research requirements.
Assists with lab compliance and maintains records (IACUC, biohazard, and DEA handling requirements). Serves as backup point-of-contact for IACUC inspections and for EH&S safety surveys.
Maintains laboratory protocols.
Animal studies: Pre- and post-surgical care of laboratory animals, small rodent surgeries, behavioral assays.
Contributes to experimental design, performs statistical evaluation of data; prepares graphs, tables, and figures for publication; contributes to writing manuscripts.
Maintains mouse colony inventory. Performs genotyping of mice.
Keep laboratory supplies and reagents ready by inventorying stock.
Prepare chemical reagents and buffer solutions.
Log samples and related pertinent information.
Prepare and store adequately aliquots of various reagents.
Expected Salary:
$16.18 – $21.00 per hour; commensurate with education and experience.
Minimum Requirements:
Associate’s degree in an appropriate area and four years of related experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and six years of related experience. Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to those with experience working with laboratory animals.
Experience with tissue harvesting, using of cryostat, and mounting tissue on slides for microscopy.
Experience with Immunohistochemistry and related techniques.
Experience with PCR and qPCR.
Ability to explain and follow through laboratory protocols.
Ability to operate and maintain laboratory equipment.
