Public Works Worker I
Job Title: Public Works Worker IDepartment: Public WorksReports to: Public Works SupervisorClassification: Full time; Non-Exempt (40 Hours per week)Compensation: $12.80 to $18.65/hourly
Position Summary
Under general supervision, performs a variety of duties in the installation, maintenance, construction and repair of Town parks, lakes, buildings, roads, sidewalks, (including right- of-way areas), and stormwater systems. Performs related work as directed. Reports to the Public Works Supervisor.
Essential Job Functions
The duties recorded below are representative of the duties of the class and are not intended to cover all the duties performed by incumbent(s) of any particular position.
The employee performs general grounds keeping, building maintenance, and janitorial duties.The operation of trucks and other power equipment associated with the general installation, maintenance and repair of Town infrastructure is associated with this position. Areas of specialty and the equipment used include landscaping maintenance (mowers, trimmers, edgers, blowers, chipper, irrigation equipment, etc.), building construction and maintenance(handheld and other power tools, mixers, compressor, tractor, and small dump truck), and regular janitorial duties (cleaning toilets, floor sweeping and cleaning, waxing and general housekeeping) of Town buildings and property.
Town infrastructure includes buildings and other related structures, parks, lakes, streets and other public right-of-way areas (curbs, driveways, medians, sidewalks, etc.), and maintenance to the Town’s stormwater infrastructure system, including catch basins, ditches, storm drains, under drains, etc.
Employee transports persons, materials and equipment to and from work areas; loads and unloads trucks and/or trailers. Sets up barricades for work zone safety; directs traffic safely around site.
Performs various other maintenance tasks, including but not limited to irrigation trouble shooting & repair, sod and/or mulch installation, weeding, tree trimming, pesticide application, debris clean-up, and exotic species removal within Town lakes.
May assist with general roadway maintenance including raking and preparing surfaces for asphalt application, applying and leveling asphalt, mixing and pouring concrete, etc.

Completes required records and reports with accuracy and in a timely manner. Enters confined space as required.
Fuels and maintains assigned vehicles and equipment.
Maintains clean and orderly work areas. Performs janitorial duties for Town buildings.Receives and responds to public inquiries regarding department activities.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Training & Experience
Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent, supplemented by a minimum of three- years of related experience in building maintenance and repair, landscaping or grounds maintenance, or roadway/stormwater maintenance and repair.
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered in lieu of the experience.
Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License.
Must obtain Florida Department of Transportation Traffic MOT (Maintenance of Traffic) certification within six months of employment (Basic, Intermediate or Advanced Level).
Must obtain the AHA or ASHI CPR, AED, First Aid within three months of employment.
Must obtain the FEMA IS 700.x, IS 800.x, IS 100.x, and IS 200.x certifications within first year.

Physical Ability: Tasks involve the ability to exert very heavy physical effort in very heavy work, typically involving some combination of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of heavy objects and materials (up to 100 pounds) and occasionally heavier items.
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require visual, depth and auditory perception and discrimination as well as oral communications ability.
Environmental Factors: Tasks require exposure to adverse weather conditions, temperature extremes, wetness/humidity, smoke/dust/pollen/dirt, disease/pathogens, strong odors, machinery hazards, traffic hazards.
