Description :
We’re looking for people who have a big heart and wish to support a child worried about what will happen tomorrow. For the limited time they are with us, our shelter allows the children and teens we assist to catch their breath and find trust and hope.
The primary role of the Youth Care Specialist (YCS) is to provide care and supervision to children/youth in the shelter programs, generate quality documentation and perform duties necessary for the overall safety and well-being of the children/youth under their care.
Schedule
Full time/40 hours; THIRD SHIFT Days may be varied depending on department needs.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED equivalent, Bachelor’s degree preferred
Must be 21 years of age or older
Minimum of one (1) year experience working in a child welfare setting
Valid Driver’s License and at least one year of U.S. driving experience
Experience working as a mental health technician or psychiatric aide or in a setting providing emergency shelter care services or therapeutic group care preferred
Successful completion of background check and drug screen
General Duties:
Maintain the order, safety, cleanliness of the facility, housekeeping, and adequate supervision of residents at all times.
Assist the children/youth in their cottage and in their adjustment to group living without weakening their ties to their natural families or significant others in the child/youth’s life.
Provide appropriate direction for children/youth in their daily routines by establishing and maintaining professional boundaries and creating an atmosphere conducive to growth and development by giving positive reinforcement as appropriate.
Provide assistance with the preparation of meals according to the approved commissary menu. In addition, provide for the health and clothing needs of each resident in the cottage. This includes over-the-counter medications, proper documentation (as assigned) of medicine.
Plan and provide transportation to various functions and activities that may include, but are not limited to, special earned outings, school functions, medical appointments, etc.
Responsible for documentation according to agency policy, i.e., daily progress notes, incident reports, e-mail communication and is familiar with the computer resources in the staff office.
