Hi, we got a new job opening for CoF Access Alaska Summer Associate in AmeriCorps
Details :
Company : AmeriCorps
Location : Alaska
position : CoF Access Alaska Summer Associate
Description :
CoF Access Alaska Summer Associate
Access Alaska’s Summer Work Program works to target youth who experience a disability and receive regular services through the school district, but who will likely not receive guaranteed services or benefits after high school. These students often fall through the cracks as they transition having not been exposed to viable services they may receive as adults and often having disabilities that may affect their ability to seamlessly enter into gainful employment. Many students served in the Summer Work Program will need training on soft skills and disability disclosure/reasonable ADA accommodations to be successful in the workplace. The Summer Work Program, therefore, works to provide this population with a first work experience that has built in supports and education to help students improve and practice soft skills prior to entering the workforce independently. The AmeriCorps VISTA program in Fairbanks is housed through the City of Fairbanks (CoF). Summer Associates serve for 10-weeks helping local organizations meet their needs through direct or indirect service. Summer Associates work 40 hours per week and in Fairbanks, receive a monthly living allowance of $1,314 which is paid bi-weekly. At the end of a successful 10-week service term, they also have the choice between an education award of $1,342 or a cash stipend of $345.
Member Duties : Access Alaska staff hope to prioritize Summer Associate recruits who can function as peer mentors, having experienced similar barriers as program participants, including disability status, socio-economic status and more, and are recent high school graduates. Summer Associate activities include: 1. Developing educational curriculum 2. Coordinate appropriate worksites 3. Lead worksite training 4. Conduct post-training evaluations 5. Serve as peer mentors
